Who is my Neighbor? | Wood
“For this piece, I wanted to focus on the arrival as told within the story of “The Good Samaritan.” The viewer becomes the wounded victim, gazing upon an unknown savior. You can only visualize the hand reaching out to lift you out of your state and the eyes of your Samaritan gazing upon you. Their obscure depiction allows them to be a universal figure. The arching frame symbolizes two key events: one being the doorway of the innkeeper that houses the victim, and the other being the metaphorical doorway of a new beginning for both involved. With this project, I felt as though, in a sense, I became the victim of the story. I bled, struggled, and fought to complete my journey with this project, gaining the help of my three neighbors, with none passing me by: Lance Pruitt, Michael “Ray” Duffey, and Cory Robinson. Unlike the story of the Good Samaritan, each person stopped to help me on my way.”
