“It is my belief that vibrant folk art can draw upon timeless themes that rouse the spirit, reorient us with the ethos of divine mystery, and unburden the soul. My work explores the relationships between delicacy and wildness, between what is seen and what is felt, aspiring to remind the observer of some long-forgotten magic that is still accessible to us all. Finding this harmony (or tension) is sort of like returning to a wonderful dream again before waking up all the way. When I can access these liminal spaces and explore what I find there, my ancestors and guides emerge, spirit orbs and ancient sky people surface, and the women who watch over the night come forth. Traces of shattered Catholicism and Orthodoxy glint and wink their survival here, alongside what's eternal in me. The unquenchable torch of motherhood blazes through the ages here, and forces of nature beyond our comprehension float over ruined earth, restoring and righting our wrongs.”
