“The Canticle is Wrong depicts a dream about captivity in an Ethiopian maximum-security prison in Addis Ababa, in which Abraham, a Nigerian man with a young family back at home, sings each morning to Jesus, asking for intercession on behalf of his children. He repeats the verse as he recites the names of each of his children. He needed salvation through a personal Moses. He didn’t have one. Most people don’t. Not depicted in this dreamscape are the rats, who were free to leave at any time.”
