Miss Samara Tan | Soft Pastel | 27.5x39.5
““Miss Samara Tan” is a retelling of the story of The Good Samaritan, taking the parable and adding a queer, modern twist. The illustration depicts a young woman sitting on the ground, distraught and disheveled, while a drag queen leans down to comfort her. This piece serves to battle the demonization of queer art by depicting the drag queen in a nurturing, supportive role and treating her with the same sincerity as the young woman on the ground. The connection between these two outsiders—the mistreated and downtrodden—represents the unity that can still exist despite their differences.”
